Today is a tough day for me. 9-11

Hey ...
Did you know that I was an Paramedic for
the New York City Fire Dept. (FDNY)?
I did that job very proudly for many years
but I wasn't working on this day exactly
14 years ago.
My ex-partner and college buddy was
on duty however and I spoke to him briefly
on his cell phone as he was responding
to Ground Zero.
I could barely hear him, and the call was
quickly disconnected.
He was killed and my life was changed
forever. I knew that I would never return
to medicine or emergency services.
I set out to find myself and to find a better
way of helping people. I drove down to
Florida and started a new life.
I met Melinda at my first job interview.
(I obviously got the job plus a marriage
certificate) We started to build a life
together. We struggled but I am where
I am now as a direct result of these
events.
Today is bitter sweet. Much more bitter
than sweet because I miss my friend.
I wish he was still here to see what we've
built, but I like to believe that he can see
it anyway.
